Guidelines

Please send all submissions as a .pdf or .pages to penellemagazine@gmail.com. Do not put your submission in the body of the e-mail. In the subject line, indicate which genre you are submitting in. A short cover letter is welcomed but not required.

The current response time is 2 months. Feel free to query if your submission has been with us longer. Simultaneous submissions are welcome, but please notify us if your work is accepted elsewhere. We do not accept reprints.

AI generated content of any kind is not accepted.

Translation can be accepted in all categories. Include documents indicating you have obtained the rights to translate the work.

We are especially interested in submitters who have a connection to the South and in particular, Arkansas. Feel free to note this in your cover letter, regardless of the content of your submission.

We are not currently a paying market, but hope to be one day. Submissions will always be free.

Poems

Please send up to five pages of poetry. The magazine is especially interested in experimental work.

Nonfiction

Please send nonfiction double-spaced. If work is less than 1,000 words, send up to 3 works in one submission. The maximum word count is 7,500.

Images

Please send up to 3 images to be used as the ‘cover’ of the magazine in a .jpg or .png format. There are no dimension requirements.

Fiction

Please send fiction double-spaced. If work is less than 1,000 words, send up to 3 works in one submission. The maximum word count is 7,500.

Reviews

Please send reviews of books from small presses. Include the book title, author, and list price. The maximum word count is 1,500. The magazine is especially interested in reviews of books in translation.
